Tastefully Decorate On A Budget

Doing your own decorating while on a budget doesn’t have to be about weaving your own area rugs or creating lamps out of old golf clubs. You can decorate on a budget and still have a living space that has style.

Area Rugs Add “Oomph!”
Yes, there are some people that think carpeted homes don’t need additional “carpeting”. This is simply untrue. There are plenty of places in a carpeted home that can use a bit of accenting using an area rug.

Floor rugs in different shapes and sizes are perfect for awkward spaces like long hallways, short living rooms, cramped kitchens and spacious bedrooms. If you have a long hallway that just seems ‘blah’ in comparison to the rooms it leads to, buy an area rug with a brilliant design that can add color and dimension.

A brightly colored area rug; like a blue rug or red area rug or an orange rug or yellow rug can add warmth and delight to just about any room whereas a muted color area rug adds elegance and sophistication. Seagrass area rugs bring the relaxing smells and sounds of the ocean wafting through your room. They help calm and soothe your senses after a stressful day at work.

Obviously, if you are decorating on a budget you aren’t going to want to buy an area rug with more dollar signs that you have places to put it. Shop smart and always look for the best deals. Area rugs can be purchased in a home décor stores and regular department stores as well as online at one of the hundreds of websites offering area rugs ( Our favorite is www.HouseOfAreaRugs.com).

Paint Adds “Pow!”

You can totally redo the look of a whole room by simply repainting it. Many rooms are simply decorated in bland monotone colors so as to appeal to the taste of buyers but once that room is yours, go all out and spruce it up a bit.

Paint should cost as little as $20 a can and will definitely put a little bit of flavor on a room that seemed more like vanilla than spice. If you don’t like the idea of just one color, why not try adding an accent wall or get creative with the painter’s tape. Add stripes or employ the use of stencils. You can get REALLY creative with homemade stencils that you design yourself.

Flora Adds Finesse!
A well placed plant can add incredible style and life to your home. Whether is it silk or real, plants come in tons of different species, colors, sizes and styles. A tall floor plant adds life to any corner whereas a sprouting potted plant will add color to any center table, side table or shelf. If you are the type of person that just does not have time to take care of a plant, you can find any number of silk or fabric plants that look real but don’t need the constant tending. If you do buy a faux plant, be sure to run a wet rag over it once in a while to keep the dust at a minimum. Real plants add the fresh smell of the outdoors and can really liven up the house.

Decorating your living space doesn’t have to cost you a month’s worth of rent;  all you need to do is shop smart and be creative to have a stylish house you can be proud of.
