One Bathroom to Share

If you are a family with one bathroom to share you may have realized by now that it doesn’t always work out. It never fails, when one person is in the bathroom someone else needs to go really bad. This is sometimes very stressful but it is the joy of being together. One day the bathroom will be empty again except when you are occupying it and you will remember the good ole’ days when life was hectic. But until that day comes you need to come up with some really useful ways to make one bathroom work for everyone. It can be done and it won’t cost you a fortune.

Whether there are three people sharing a bathroom or six, you will need to find a way that everyone can share this one room. The main keyword her is organization. It’s important to stay organized so that everyone knows what is theirs. Two of you may like the same toothpaste and disagree as to where it should be kept. Things like that is what everyone seems to find to argue about so it does need to be addressed when learning to share.

No matter how old everyone is in the home they will need their own place to keep their stuff in. Everyone will have the basics; toothbrush, toothpaste, hair bows, combs, and brush. There may be a few other things that may be required in the older ones. There should be a separate place to keep adults personal supplies away from the children. You don’t want the children to get their hands on razors or other sharp instruments.

Ways to Organize and Decorate Your Bathroom

· color coordinate everything. Have everyone name their favorite color, hopefully the colors will all be different. That is the color designated to that person in the bathroom.

· You can purchase travel totes from places like LL Bean that come in an array of colors and design. Each one of these travel totes can easily zip up and fit comfortably in a closet or on a shelf. When the person uses it they just take it out and hang it up on the back of the door and use the items inside it. When they are finished they can zip it up and tuck it back in the closet or on the shelf.

· Color coordinate towels and wash clothes the same way. Purchase enough towels and wash clothes to get them through until wash day. This may be a somewhat big investment but it will be worth it in the long run. There will be no mistaking who’s towel is who’s.

· Baskets are great for organizing. You can put each person’s extra stuff in baskets that can sit neatly on a shelf or in the closet. The baskets can be for early in the mornings when everyone is in a hurry to get their teeth brushed and their hair and make-up done. Easily accessible and great in a rush.

It’s hard to make one bathroom work but you can work it out. Once everyone sees what effort you have put forth in order to get organized they will appreciate what you have done and will put forth their best effort to make it work.
