Budget Home Decorating With Books

One very easy and inexpensive way to decorate your home is to use things you might already have. Almost everyone has a collection of old hard back books for instance - and if you don’t have some, they’re very easy to get at almost any thrift store or yard sale.

To use books for decorating, simply remove the paper covers. Underneath you’ll often find plain colored covers, but sometimes you’ll even get lucky and find some covers that have wonderful designs and decorations all their own.

With plain covered hardback books though, you can turn them into a beautiful home decor arrangement by simply adding a few accessories.

The picture at the left for instance, shows how easy it is to create a beautiful home accent piece just using books, some silk or plastic flowers, and a bit of crocheted lace. If you don’t have crocheted lace, try using just a piece of standard lace material or other pretty fabric pieces. This can be a square cut from old clothing, or a bargain bin piece bought at a fabric store.

You can also buy crocheted lace and doilies at flea markets and yard sales for pennies usually, and you’ll find many different types of flowers and greenery to use in your arrangement too.

For added decorating impact, try putting a candy dish or vase next to the stack of books, and put some flowers in that too.

When you stack your books, make them slightly irregular instead of being stacked exactly in line with each other. This creates more of a visual impact with your decorating arrangement.
