Decorating Boys’ Rooms: Making It Their Dream Space

Young boys’ rooms must reflect their likes and dreams. There are easy ways to convert their rooms into their dream spaces, whether they are explorers or racers at heart.

Young boys are more often than not, very hyperactive. One of the best ways to get some peace, at least occasionally, is to make sure that they have a space all to themselves. This means putting some effort into decorating your young imp’s room, but it is worth the effort.

Young boys almost universally have some passions: fighter figures, fire engines, race cars and bike and jungles with wild, fierce animals. They all want to grow up and have wonderful and daring adventures. What could be better than giving them some hands on practice in their own rooms! Jungle, fire engine, racing or fighter universe themed rooms might sound like a huge amount of work, but they are not, and your brave young warrior will enjoy the room so much that it will be worth it.

The first step is to choose one thing in the room as the focal point. The bed, a couch or a wall are all options. If the theme you choose is jungle, set up a little tent with a sleeping bag, to serve as bed. The rest of the room will revolve around this. It’s easy to cover the floor in fun animal print area rugs. If your budget allows it, there are plenty of very jungle-like wallpapers available. But if that is too expensive, you can paint the room in an earthy deep green – latex based gloss or semi-gloss paints are the easiest to clean and maintain – and get wild animal posters. You can even involve your explorer in training by getting him to draw and color a few animals.

You do not have to get new furniture, either – painting the chairs and tables in shades of green and brown will be enough. Camouflage curtains will make a great final touch. If they are not too heavy, light will filter through, to create lovely shadows. A few leaf patterns on lamp shades can change the entire dimensions of the room. The night light is another small thing you can change a bit – a bit of dark green glass paper can make a world of difference. Add a small jungle kit in the tent, with a flashlight, rope and a few other things explorers need, and the room is all set.

It is quite easy to redecorate your child’s room this way, without much expense. If racing is what your boy likes, with a few tweaks a couch can be turned into a car seat. The colour scheme can reflect the team he likes – red for Ferrari, for example. Race car bedspreads are quite common, and posters are dime a dozen. There are plenty of things you can pick up at garage sales that will enhance the effect. An old steering wheel can be given a makeover and hung up as wall decoration. A low chair can be easily converted into a makeshift race car seat, with a low table, and this can also be incitement for him to do his homework! And even the floor can match the theme with a fun boys rugs. The final touch can be racing pajamas, for his world championship dreams.

With a little imagination, his rooms can be given a complete makeover, to make it his castle. And if you have trouble thinking of ideas, ask your apprentice adventure seeker. He will have plenty of ideas that you can perhaps tone down a little, and put together, to make his room the perfect space for him.
