Creating A Nursery That Lasts

in Bedroom Decorating

Most people jump right in and start creating a nursery long before the little bundle of joy has arrived, but it is a good idea to really take your time and think about how you should decorate your little girl or boys nursery. Before you realize it your tiny tot, isn’t tiny anymore and the Winnie the Pooh wall paper just won’t do and you will have to decorate again.

Pinks and blues for paint colors are fine, but if you want to create a room that your child can “grow” into and opting for a room that has bold colors will mean that you are less likely to tire of it so easily. Paint one of the walls with stripes, geometric shapes or some other bold pattern that will create an eye-catching room.

If you are planning of using wall paper and decals instead of paint, use something that has phrases and minimize the use of little toy trucks, teddy bears or dolls. This way the décor will last many years and you can just buy new accessories like area rugs, lamps and curtains to update the design. Using a wall paper border with little bears can allow you to have the “baby” look and it is easier to replace a simple border than having to wallpaper the entire room.

Think long term when choosing to decorate the nursery as it won’t be long before it becomes “my bedroom” with a “no-entry” sign bolted to the door, and it is best to avoid the cliché baby nursery décor so that is lasts for many years to come. Parents are the ones that tend to opt for the traditional pinks and blues, but designers will generally advise against it mainly due to the short period that a room is a “nursery”
